Origin and production of Hevea milk:
It was at the beginning of the 20th century that the latter was exploited during the boom in rubber. Originating in the Amazon rainforest, Rubberwood is now also grown in Southeast Asia due to humid conditions similar to South America. Most of this milk is produced by numerous independent local producers (80% of production).
The particularity of this tree? The latex . A healthy Hevea can produce natural latex for 30 years depending on its vitality. Namely that after its planting, it is necessary to wait between 7 and 8 years before it is really exploitable.
To collect Hevea milk, it is necessary to make a slight spiral incision (1/2 cm) in the tree in order to release the latex ( natural and not synthetic ). Moreover, being able to reach up to 30 meters in height, the circumference of the tree must be between 50 centimeters and 1 meter in order to be able to be exploited.
Contrary to popular belief, milk is in the form of a viscous liquid and is not like sap or resin. The latex is actually the shield of the tree , this is what will protect it from the various surrounding bacteria. Moreover, this is why the latex contained in the LACTAE HEVEA ® labeled insoles does not need any treatment or additives, so let's take care of our forests!
Extraction and molding process:
Similar to dairy products, Hevea's milk refining method has several stages:
- Milk recovery: the daily harvest from about twenty trees is necessary for the manufacture of a single pair of soles
- Pouring milk into molds
- Liquid clotting
- High temperature cooking
- Demoulding of soles
- Drying: this step is very important because it allows moisture to withdraw. The evaporation of the latter by the innumerable micro-alveoli form small cushions of air. This feature allows the sole to become very flexible, very elastic and even more resistant while ensuring exceptional comfort . This method finally brings an unparalleled lightness. Dense 0.9 g/cm3, immerse it in water, it won't sink (the sole, not the shoe, let's be clear).
